Beat the Night with Antigonight

Antigonight, a one-night, outdoor festival of the arts, will take place on Saturday October 2.  Many of the area’s finest musicians, storytellers, actors, poets, choirs, dancers, painters, sculptors and other artists are coming together to create a magical evening.  This free event for all ages features activities in which everyone can participate regardless of age or ability.

Guysborough Antigonish Pictou Arts and Culture Council’s (GAPACC’s) exhibitions committee is working hard to make the first ever Antigonight event a true festival of the arts. Organizers Tila Kellman, Fenn Martin, Trudi Bunting and Bruce Campbell have sent out a request to local artists.  The overwhelming response of the arts community will not only showcase the artists of this area but will give community members an evening to remember.

Antigonight will kick off at the RK MacDonald Home in the late afternoon and will proceed from there to Chisholm Park where activities will get underway around 6PM and run till approximately 9PM.  One of Antigonight’s many opportunities to get involved with the arts, will feature participatory painting and sculpting.

To date, 28 artists and arts organizations have signed up to take part in Antigonight. The Town of Antigonish has pledged its full support.  Several businesses have expressed an interest in becoming part of the evening.  The Capitol Theatre will feature a movie selected for young people for this special evening at 9 pm.  Letters are going out to local businesses to encourage more involvement with this project and to request their support. Modelled after popular, night-time arts festivals such as Toronto’s Nuit Blanche (scotiabanknuitblanche.ca) and Halifax’s Nocturne (artgalleryofnovascotia.ca/en/nocturne),  Antigonight has the potential to become an annual festival of arts and our community.
