Odile Tetu
Odile Têtu was born in Québec and attended the universities of Ottawa and Montreal, where she studied under Michel Goulet and Pierre Granche. She spent 20 years in Eastern Ontario, where she co-produced five huge murals of local historical value, which have enhanced tourism in the area. For five years in the 1990s, Têtu was part of the Artists in School program of the Ontario Arts Council; she coordinated and facilitated the production of permanent murals in schools in Francophone communities, where hundreds of children, aged 5 to 16 years, participated in making the artworks.
Among her earlier art exhibitions, Têtu’s detailed watercolour-on-silk studies of insects and birds have been exhibited at the Botanical Gardens of Montreal, the Frederiksberg Botanical Gardens in Copenhagen, Denmark, Cornell University’s Gallery in Ithaca, New York, and Saint Francis Xavier University’s Art Gallery. Among the galleries where she has shown or consigned work during 2006 and 2007 are Art Sales and Rental of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Halifax; Battle Harbour Historic Trust, Labrador; Gros Morne National Park’s visitor’s centre gallery, Newfoundland; Jean Claude Bergeron Gallery, Ottawa; Lyghtesome Gallery, Antigonish, NS.; St. Francis Xavier Art Gallery, Antigonish; Skipping Stone Craft and Gallery, Guysborough; and Tall and Small Cafè’s art exhibitions, Antigonish.
