GAPACC Members Host Workshops

Tempera Tantrum and Figure It Out, this weekend at the StFX Art Department.

GAPACC artist members Nicholas Johnson and Fenn Martin are hosting simultaneous workshops this weekend at the StFX art department in egg-tempera painting techniques and figurative clay sculpture. The workshops are presented through the department of Continuing Education at the university and will run through Saturday.  Running the workshops at the same time is an attempt at creating  a unique, dynamic environment wherein participants can take part in group critiques and think about possibilites for incorporating different media into their own art practice. These workshops are an open and relaxed environment.  No experience required, all tools and materials will be provided.

Tempera Tantrum & Figure it Out: Painting and Ceramic Workshops with Nicholas Johnson & Fenn Martin in Antigonish

Two simultaneous workshops are being held at the Art Department of Saint Francis Xavier University on the weekend of November 14th and 15th. These workshops will create a dynamic and inspirational working environment.

Figurative Clay Sculpture with Fenn Martin will introduce participants to basic hand modeling techniques. Working from a live model each participant will create several figurines exploring issues of representation in the third dimension. Perspective, musculature and movement will be discussed and investigated.

Egg Tempera Technique with Nicholas Johnson will introduce participants to the painting techniques of the old masters. Participants will mix their paints, learn under painting and glazing, and how to integrate these techniques into their own practice.

The two groups will meet collectively for group lunches and group discussion at the end of the day Sunday.

Nicholas Johnson and Fenn Martin create collaborative art that combines tempera painting and ceramic techniques. Their work includes community art education and organizing, and an active art practice that includes several gallery exhibitions and grant-funded projects.

Presented by the Continuing Ed department at StFX, Both workshops will be conducted Saturday November 14th (10 am to 5pm) and Sunday November 15th (10am-4pm).
