Go ARTS: Youth Workshops

Modern Art Youth Workshops FlyerGAPACC and GATHERING OF THE ARTS present: Modern Art! Youth Workshops. These youth art workshops offer a chance to experience both traditional and high tech forms of art taught by professional artists. Workshops range from creating a traditional Chinese ceramic horse sculpture, learning how to make custom screen-prints with Ross Screen-Print, mastering a turntable with a local DJ, and an introduction to design through digital collages. All workshops run from 2pm to 4pm with registration at the door.

CERAMIC SCULPTURE: The Tang Dynasty Horse Tuesday, July 21, 2009 2 – 4pm 279 Main St. Antigonish In this workshop, experienced ceramic instructor Fenn Martin invites participants to work together in groups to construct large ceramic horses. The participants will learn and use basic slab and hand building techniques and work on an armature to create the horse. This sculptural workshop blends a unique image from a rich Chinese history with a fun and easy learning experience.

CUSTOM SCREENPRINTING Wednesday, July 22, 2009 @ 2-4 279 Main St. Antigonish Led by Daniel Ross, founder of Ross Screen-Print, participants will learn how to create their own prints, perfect for personalizing clothing, accessories, posters and more. Participants will learn the screen-printing process, as well as how to design and use a custom print stencil. Each participant will have the choice of creating a custom poster or t-shirt, all donated by Ross Screen-Print.

HIGH TECH ART: Digital Collage Thursday, July 23, 2009 2- 4 pm @ StFX Nicholson Hall. Meet at 1:50 PM in the glass foyer by the Nicholson Hall parking lot behind St. Ninian Place. Professional designer and local artist Ruth Young, will guide participants through the world of “high tech” art and design. You will be introduced to basic design principles and elements and how these visually communicate. Using open source software, such as Picnik, everyone will have the chance to create a fun digital collage. No experience necessary. All ages welcome. Adults are invited to accompany kids under the age of 12

TURNTABLE TEACHABLES: Learning to DJ Friday, July 24, 2009 2-4 pm 279 Main St. Antigonish Local DJ Peter Marshall (DJ Ginger) will show participants how to drop a beat. After giving a demonstration on basic turntable principles, participants will be invited to have a go on a turntable setup and learn how they too can mix at home on digital turntable software.
